EWIS


This is Mandatory training and is aimed at various target groups categorized 1-8 intended to:

'improve the airworthiness code for large airplanes and the requirements for continued airworthiness in the field of
electrical wiring interconnection systems since failures in those systems have been identified as causal factors in several
incidents and accidents involving large airplanes'.

Qualified staff performing electrical/avionic engineering on in-service aeroplanes

(LRU change is not considered wire maintenance)
 

Group 5

Qualified staff performing other engineering or planning work on in-service aeroplanes 

Group 6

Other service staff with duties in proximity to EWIS 

Group 7

Flight deck crew 

Group 8

Cabin crew 



EWIS Groups 1 and 2

 

Groups 1 and 2 have been merged to cover:

Qualified staff members who perform wiring systems maintenance and their training is based on their job description and the work being done by them (e.g. avionics skilled workers
or technicians cat B2).

It also includes staff members who perform EWIS inspections (but not maintenance) and their training is based on their job description and the work being done by them (e.g. inspectors / technicians cat B1/B2).

Note: Online course is Theory only and will require Practical confirmation in accordance with Module G. (further info)


EWIS Practical Module G for groups 1 and 2

 

Module G Connective Device Repair (Practical)

The student must be able to demonstrate the procedures for the replacement of all parts of the typical types of connective
devices found on the airplane.

This will require ‘hands on’ classroom practical experience with the aid of SWPM and tooling, certified as accomplished by the instructor on the day, or Quality Manager of
the Organisation.

Note:
EWIS Groups 1 and 2 ‘on line’ Theoretical certificates are issued immediately upon successful completion of the
‘on line’ course. The student can thereafter undergo the practical at a maintenance organisation of his/her choice or
at Aeropeople (Stansted). On receipt of signed certificate the EWIS Groups 1 and 2 Theoretical Certificate will be
re-issued confirming Module G Practical.

EWIS Group 3

 

Qualified staff performing electrical/avionic engineering on
in-service aeroplanes.

These staff members are personnel who are authorised to design EWIS installations, modifications and repairs (e.g. electrical / avionic engineers):

EWIS Groups 4 and 5

 

Qualified staff performing general maintenance/inspections not involving wire maintenance (LRU change is not considered
wire maintenance).

They perform maintenance on aeroplanes that may require removal/reconnection of electrical connective devices
(e.g. inspectors/technicians cat A or B1)

Also Qualified staff performing other engineering or planning
work on in-service aeroplanes and are personnel who are authorised to design mechanical/structure, systems
installations, modifications and repairs, or personnel who are authorised to plan maintenance tasks.

EWIS Group 6

 

Other service staff with duties in proximity to EWIS.

These staff members are personnel whose duties would bring them into contact/view of aeroplane wiring systems.

 

This would include, but not be limited to:

Aeroplane cleaners, cargo loaders, re-fuelling staff, lavatory servicing personnel, de-icing personnel, push back personnel.
